Information backdated :  August 20, 2007

Seoul, Korea —GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo) today launched the GM Daewoo Racing Team, the first motor sports team run by a Korean automaker that bears the automaker’s name. The team will begin competition in the fourth round of the 2007 Korea Grand Touring Championship (KGTC) Super Race Touring A and B Class, which is scheduled for August 26.

GM Daewoo can rely many years of motor sports experience. The Lacetti model made its debut in one of the world’s four major global motor sports competitions – the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) – in 2005.

“As our early success shows, nothing demonstrates the dynamic qualities of our products better than motor racing,” said Rick LaBelle, GM Daewoo Vice President of Commercial Operations. “We expect our new racing team to stimulate the ongoing growth of motor sports here in Korea. It is our wish that other automotive companies and sponsors will follow GM Daewoo’s lead and become involved as well.”

The GM Daewoo Racing Team selected the Kalos, Gentra and Lacetti to compete in two categories of the KGTC. All three models offer outstanding performance and a quality track record at home and abroad. They will be modified for the Championship with the support of GM Daewoo’s engineering and design teams.

Racing Director Won-kyu Ju has assembled a team comprised of four experienced drivers and four mechanics. “Thanks to GM Daewoo, I am proud to have the opportunity to lead the first racing team launched by a Korean automaker,” said Ju. “Our goal in the first year is to be among the top-performing teams. Our goal next year is to become the series champion.”

GM Daewoo Senior Manager Suk-jae Cho, who oversees the racing team, said: “Our experience in motor sports will help GM Daewoo further enhance the performance and quality of the cars that we build and sell everyday. We have the support of GM and its motor sports teams from around the globe and will leverage their unmatched resources and experience.”

On August 26, when the GM Daewoo Racing Team makes its competitive debut, GM Daewoo will invite its employees and customers to participate in a variety of launch events including the Grand Debut Performance and a fan festival.

GM Daewoo Auto & Technology was established in 2002. It has five manufacturing facilities in Korea as well as an assembly facility in Vietnam. In addition, GM Daewoo provides market and brand-specific vehicle kits for assembly at GM facilities in China, Thailand, India, Colombia and Venezuela. In 2006, GM Daewoo sold in Korea and exported more than 1.52 million units, including CKD products. GM Daewoo now produces vehicles and kits for Chevrolet, Buick, Opel, Vauxhall, Pontiac, Holden and Suzuki that are offered in more than 150 markets on six continents. Imported GM products from the Cadillac and Saab premium brands are sold in Korea through GM AutoWorld retailers.
